Vernier Software & Technology Partners with the Association for Multicultural Science Education

With Vernier support, AMSE members will share the importance of diversity and equity in science classrooms during regional NSTA conferences

BEAVERTON, Oregon, September 12, 2017 — Vernier Software & Technology has partnered with the Association for Multicultural Science Education (AMSE), an affiliate association of the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), to support AMSE as it discusses diversity and equity in science classrooms during NSTA’s three regional conferences this fall.

“AMSE is a leader in promoting diversity within teacher leadership and helping to drive ongoing dialogue around multicultural science education,” said John Wheeler, CEO of Vernier Software & Technology. “We share this commitment to diversity and equity in science education and are proud to partner with AMSE to support their ongoing work.”

AMSE is organized to stimulate and promote science teaching to students of culturally diverse backgrounds in an effort to motivate such students to consider science-related careers; explore and promote the improvement of science curriculum, educational systems, and teaching methods in schools to assist such stimulation; recruit and involve teachers of all minorities in science education; and initiate and engage in activities and programs in furtherance of improving the science education of culturally diverse students.

“It is so important that there is an ongoing dialogue about multicultural science education and how cultural responsiveness helps meet the needs of all students,” said Sharon Delesbore, Ph.D., president of the AMSE Board of Directors. “Through our partnership with Vernier, we are able to reach more educators and have more conversations about the importance of these topics — and their impact on both teaching and learning — at NSTA forums across the country.”

AMSE will present sessions entitled, “George Washington Carver Conversations on Diversity and Equity,” at the following NSTA regional conferences:

  • Baltimore, MD on October 5 – October 7, 2017
